Across Europe as well as other parts of the world, two major social developments are increasing in importance – the ageing of the population and international migration. Many countries use migrant populations to fulfill important roles in augmenting the indigenous workforce numbers, where they often take jobs that companies have trouble filling.
And now the migrant populations are also ageing and will need health care and long term care services. This is an issue that has been closely followed by AGE, The European Older People’s Platform. They have recently published a paper outlining the challenges in Europe of meeting the needs of this often overlooked population. This is an important topic and we welcome comments and examples from other countries and parts of the world.
