IAHSA is co-sponsoring an Asian Ageing Conference in Singapore in January where representatives from most Asian countries will come together to discuss challenges and opportunities presented by their ageing population.

To illustrate the issue I’m sharing an article I came across today from  the Viet Nam News. In it, Nguyen Quoc Anh from the General Office for Population, Family Planning, notes that 70% of the older people need health care services but less than 20% have a health insurance card for free health care.    And in looking to the future when the elderly population is even larger, the fear is that the government will not be able provide care for them.

IAHSA’s Global Ageing Network was created to enable sharing of models of care and solutions to challenges of global ageing.  The Asian Conference next month is a good first step to creating this sharing network in that region.
