According to a column in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the Philippines is the only country in Asia that has no social pension for poor, older people.  However, Ed Gerlock of the Coalition of Services for the Elderly [COSE] and other community groups for the elderly are trying to change that by advocating for the passage of The Elderly Poor Pensions Act.

Introduced recently by Rep. Eduardo Zialcita, the law seeks to ‘encourage social and economic development through monthly pensions to the elderly poor’.

COSE has been an advocate for the elderly for 20 years, empowering them to fulfill their potential for productive lives and make valuable contributions to society.    Ed Gerlock will be at IAHSA’s conference in London where you can learn more about COSE and his community development programs.
