The UK Care Services Minister, Phil Hope, recently launched Putting People First a major workforce strategy with a goal of getting 50,000 unemployed into social care work.   The program would invest major funding to target long-term unemployed young people to the field by providing traineeships as well as boosting the status of social care.

The strategy also aims to lure experienced graduates, managers and leaders from the private sector into the social care sector with the goal of making sure the sector has a high quality workforce in place to deliver personalized services for years to come.

The long term care workforce is a major theme of IAHSA’s 8th International Conference in London in July.   There you can learn about strategies other countries are employing to deal with the critical issue.
