The European Centre for International Political Economy, an independent not-for-profit policy research think tank, has been looking at how to make healthcare more affordable through trade.   Their recent  study, Assessing International Trade in Healthcare Services, found that there are high levels of movement of foreign health professionals between countries and significant presence of foreign health care firms in local markets.   Cross-border services and patient travel remain low.

As the world gets smaller ECIPE suggests that there is unexploited potential for greater international trade in healthcare services.   And it will be inevitable that ageing services would be part of that growth pattern should it occur.
