Yesterday’s post gave a profile of ageing in America.   Today we focus on China.

The Center for Strategic and International Studies has been following the ageing trends in China for a number of years and last month released an update to their report The Graying of the Middle Kingdom published in early 2000.

The update, China’s Long March to Retirement Reform, evaluates recent government efforts to prepare for the challenge and outlines an ambitious new reform plan.    Even though China is currently trying to deal with the near-term economic slowdown, CSIS warns that China’s age wave is approaching so fast that delaying any action on addressing the ageing issue is not an option.
