The Australian Institute for Health and Welfare recently published a new report profiling the country’s ageing services programs.   The report, Residential Aged Care in Australia, shows that there is a trend for having fewer but larger aged care facilities and that people are going to aged care facilities later and staying longer.

The government set a target of having 88 operational aged care homes for every 1000 people over the age of 70 by 2011 and contend that the data in this report show that they are well positioned to meet the target.
