According to a recent study by SINTEF for the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities, front-line staff in the nursing and care sector would welcome sensor and robot technology in nursing homes and the homes of elderly people.

The staff believe that use of technology would give them more time for social interaction with the elderly as well as enable elderly to stay in their homes longer.    Tasks that were identified for robots included clearing as well as moving and lifting residents.

Everyone involved realize that the use of technology is not the answer to all of the challenges of dealing with an ageing population but can offer some relief.
