Many immigrants travel across the globe so they can be with family as they grow old.    And the trend seems to be increasing.   According to an article in the New York Times, the number of immigrants to the USA over 65 has almost doubled in the past 35 years.

Being reunited with their families is the first step.  Adjusting  to live in a new country is another and more difficult one.   For some of those coming to the USA, most do not speak or understand English, do not drive and end up being isolated and lonely in their family’s home.     The NY Times article contains a number of illustrations of how the immigrants are faring in their new country.

This is an important issue and one that deserves attention, both in the USA and other countries where with increased numbers of older immigrants.
