Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced this week that the elderly with the highest needs will be given free personal home care.    As noted in the article in Dash.com Mr. Brown said that to provide security for pensioners, health and social care services would be brought together under a new National Care Service in England.

Scotland already offers free personal care, which includes help with getting up, washing and drassing.  The plan will be rolled out in England and Wales in September 2010 and will mean abolishment of the current means test on care at home.
