The culture change movement in aged care is all about how nursing homes can be transformed from institutional hospital-like settings to homes that focus on residents’ preferences.   Critical for successful implementation of culture change is involvement of the care staff.

A recent ‘Issue Paper’ [Nurses Involvement in Nursing Home Culture Change: Overcoming Barriers, Advancing Opportunities] from the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing [New York University College of Nursing] explores some of the obstacles confronting those trying to implement culture change and makes recommendations about nurses’ roles and competencies for the process.
