India will soon overtake China as the most populous country in the world.   Along with that hallmark comes the additional recognition of having the largest number of ‘old’ people as well.

And as the country begins to prepare for taking care of this population, many elderly feel that they are being left out of the conversation about what they need and what will be provided for them.

This week New Media America is launching a series of articles on ageing in India.  One issue that they point out in this article is that in India, even with the large numbers of elderly, there seems to be no ageing-focused consumer group to give them a political voice and educate them about preparing for old age.    An opportunity as well as a challenge for consumer groups in India.
