There is a lot going on in the UK these days.   They have had terrible weather, were hard hit by the economic downturn and are facing a bruising general election in a few months.

According to Author David Willetts’ new book The Pinch: How the Baby Boomers Took their Children’s Future – and Why They Should Give it Back an intergenerational clash will be  a major factor in the election.   He also posits that there is a massive and crippling shift in resources to retiring baby boomers from the younger generation and that because the baby boomers are so vast in number there is a ‘breakdown in the balance between the generations’.

As noted in the review by The Economist,  Mr. Willetts book offers a wealth of social detail that helps the reader understand the complex issues facing Britain.     And perhaps a lesson for others.
