Women are disproportionately affected by ageing. Daughters care for mothers and mothers-in-law. Women are more likely to be paid caregivers in the home and in facilities. And women live longer than men.

Ageing is a women’s issue.

Today I went to a panel discussion hosted by IAHSA member, Volunteers of America. They conducted a study on ageing in the United States. They found that only 11% of caregivers are paid for their work, but “82% of baby boomers expect to be providing care for a loved one.”

It’s time we all look for ways to help caregivers and the older adults the care for. What is your facility doing to help caregivers?
