June 15 is the 5th Annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, a day when people around the world  engage in activities to raise awareness about elder mistreatment.

World Days have been conducted in New York, Geneva, Ottawa, Paris, and this year, in Toronto. But it is the informal activities that have attracted huge attention and enthusiasm worldwide. These have ranged from the deeply serious to whimsical and playful. A virtual kaleidoscope of multiple reflections of a diverse and committed collective.   This article from My.News in India is a good example of the activity being generated around the issue.

The important challenge now is to have June 15th proclaimed as an official event on the UN calendar. This is done by one country making the application to the UN General Assembly. The question remains, which country will champion this cause?
