Have you ever wondered whether your country was prepared to meet the ageing challenge?  The answer may be upon us!  In a report released in Washington today, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) has developed a Global Ageing Preparedness (GAP) Index. According to the Center, the GAP Index “provides the first comprehensive quantitative assessment of the progress that countries worldwide are making in preparing for global aging, and particularly the old-age dependency dimension of the challenge”. They add that “the goal of the GAP is to help inform the policy debate about global ageing and focus attention on the need for constructive reform in confronting one of the transformative challenges challenges of the 21st Century”.   The GAP Index consists of two separate subindices—the fiscal sustainability index and the income adequacy index and covers twenty countries, including both developed economies and emerging markets.
