Twenty four ageing services professionals just returned home from a ten-day study tour of the Western United States organized by IAHSA and the Center for Ageing Services Technologies (CAST).  Here is some of what Andrew Larpent, CEO of the United Kingdom’s Somerset Care and a study tour participant had to say about his experience:

Our study tour was stimulating, professionally inspiring and thought provoking.  For busy executives it was an opportunity for a significant professional educational experience in the company of peers from other parts of the world, and a chance to step back from the day to day challenges of our business lives and to share international quality time with like-minded people.

The value of international professional exchange and study is considerable and I would encourage others working in care services to think how they can deepen their appreciation of the sectors in which they work through participation in such tours. They are valuable opportunities to experience the ways in which fellow professionals in other countries approach similar challenges.  Travel broadens the mind and witnessing the best practices of others first hand is undoubtedly one of the best ways to learn and to improve aspects of one’s own business.

The first IAHSA Study Tour will be judged a great success by all who participated.
