A recent study at La Trobe University in Australia points out the importance of creating environments that help the establishment and maintenance of constructive staff-family relationships.

The study suggests that there is potential for the family and staff to work together more creatively, not only during the admission period, but over the longer term to help form enduring and positive relationships to help the resident and family better integrate into the life of the facility.

Strategies to encourage and support family inclusion in decision-making is an important part of building the relationship.
