Elder abuse is an under-examined yet pervasive problem that everyone must confront.   As recently reported in the Irish Times, a study by Age Action Ireland shows that 2.2 percent of people aged over 65 have experienced some form of abuse, whether sexual, psychological, financial or neglect.    Age Action spokesman Eamon said that it is feared that only one in five cases of elder abuse is reported to authorities.

During the IAHSA Global Ageing Conference/LeadingAge Annual Meeting this week in Washington, an important session will delve into the state of elder abuse on a global level and provide firsthand knowledge about elder abuse prevention models being implemented around the world.
